Mr. Jones

Before my mom left for Germany, we went on a little shopping date in Greenbelt 5 to buy her “winter” clothes for the 8degree weather. When we finally decided to take a break, we stumbled upon Mr Jones! I can’t quite decide how I feel about the interiors, it’s a mix of extreme 50’s diner style (hence the chairs and the red leather booths), and (in a way) Neo-Baroque (with the padded wall and mirror finishes). I’ve hadn’t eaten there before, so i was pretty excited! their menu is FULL of exciting dishes!

I’m such a chocolate milkshake freak, I think I mentioned before how i’m on the hunt for the best one. So far, Brother’s Burger is still the BEST but the milkshake at Mr Jones comes pretty close! The portion is huge and it’s kinda pricey but SO YUMMY.

Mom’s Black Bean Chili

I couldnt decide what to order so I asked the waiter for advice and he said they had a seafood dish that had shrimp, dory, and calamari so I went with that. I really enjoyed it! plus, all the sauces were really tasty!

After merienda, mom and I practically skipped to National Bookstore to buy a copy of my sister’s book: One Crazy Summer! I think all of you should get yourselves a copy as well! It’s by summit books so you can find it at your nearest bookstore or magazine stand :)

It’s finally here! the event I’ve been waiting for since my sister decided to write One Crazy Summer! Come to Powerbooks in Greenbelt for the launch of One Crazy Summer by Ines B. Yao! Marla Miniano, one of my favorite Summit authors, is also launching her book, Fangirl! See you there!!

One Crazy Summer

I have probably been counting down to my sister’s book launch since I first heard about it. When the day finally arrived, I couldn’t have been more proud of her!

My mom and I got to Powerbooks in Greenbelt at around 4 to start setting up. At first I expected a handful of people to show up, but I was pleasantly surprised when the place was packed by the time my sister started to read an excerpt from the book!

After Marla read from Fan Girl and my sister finished reading a bit of her book, they entertained some questions from people in the audience. My sister even threw a question my way, which totally caught me off guard! After the q & a portion was they made people line up to have their books signed. Again, i was incredibly proud of her!

Kokie and I with some of my sister’s friends from Summit :)

(She probably wont read this but…) Congrats again, Nang, for finally becoming a published (book) author!

My mom challenged me to read 12 books: one per month (at least) for 2012. I don’t know if you guys have ever read The Perks Of Being A Wallflower before, but maybe making this my first choice was wrong. I got a little depressed reading the book, like, I got so absorbed by the writing that when I was nearing the end and the mood of the book stayed in the sad end of the spectrum, I think my mood also stayed sad. I don’t know if that made any sense to any of you, but if you do decide to read this book, tip: don’t forget to go out and grab yourself something to make you happy after.

Keeping the challenge going, I decided my February book would be The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart. It reminded me almost of The Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket. I actually really enjoyed the book, it’s one of those books that seem like a children’s book but with more to it than just the simple storyline. What I loved most about the book is that I found bits of myself in the personalities of the kids. I read it quicker than I anticipated so I might prove my mom wrong sooner than I thought!

I was supposed to be reading the sequel to the book I posted in February, but school got a bit hectic in March and I couldn’t finish it. This is another book I read for the month of march! I recently discovered the wonders of Amazon.com, and this is one of the books I ordered. It’s really inspiring and the entire layout and overall look of the book is lovely. It’s one of those small, light and easy reads that you can take to the beach and read either on the plane there or while soaking up some sun — which is exactly what I did! :) What I love most about this book is that it’s a book about helping you get creative without sounding like a typical self-help book. Now i’m all pumped up and inspired to get some creative juices flowing and changing up my way of thinking when it comes to artsy stuff :)

Regretfully I wasnt able to post for April! I just got so swept up in the craziness of school :( I would post a picture of my school books for April but they’re ugly. So i’m going to skip ahead and show you my May book!
Jeremiah: A Romantic Vision
Its a huge coffee table book I ordered from amazon.com. It has illustrations by Jeremiah Goodman and a couple of interviews from people that he’s designed for. I love how this book shows that sometimes a messy illustration is better than something perfect. He captures the vibe of a room perfectly and that’s something I definitely want to work on as a designer.
If you guys are into design or art even, you should check this book out! don’t be fooled though, its a HUGE book, which means shipping will drain your wallet. :(

Why we broke up by Daniel Handler.
For June I decided I needed to get back to reading books that were non-school related. I passed this book several times at the store but my sister said she would judge me if I bought it. I heard her voice in my head all the way to the counter, telling me that I would just get all sad again reading this. I must admit, it did hit me at some points in the story that I probably wasn’t ready to read a break up book, but I continued reading. I ended up absolutely devouring this book. It was wonderful, despite the roller coaster of emotions I was feeling chapter after chapter.
I couldnt put it down! there were so many parts of the book where I had to stop reading to text my friend, Abe, and tell her how sad it was making me! (and how I needed her to read the book because I knew she’d understand!). So i’m telling all of you, go to the bookstore and get Why we broke up by Daniel Handler - FYI he’s Lemony Snicket so expect great things from this book!
