We Were Meant To Live For So Much More…

A couple of months ago, Artu told me about Switchfoot coming to Manila. I’ve been a fan for… well, Forever. They came to Manila 4 years ago but I missed the concert, I remember regretting it for a really long time! so this time i wasnt about to pass up the chance to see them live.

The day Artu texted me and told me his sister could get us tickets i was BEYOND stoked. Expecting to get seats really far away, I didnt get my hopes up too much. I guess that just added to the hype that came when i found out i’d have an all access pass and Artu would be one of the 5 photographers assigned to cover the event! 

April 30 - Concert Day! It started out at Pasinaya — which i will write about soon, i promise. Then by 330 Artu and i jetted over to Ultra to catch soundcheck. To tell you the truth, i was BEYOND starstruck when i saw the band come out on stage. Ultra was basically empty, save for a few volunteers and us. And to top off that experience they sang “Always.” I swear that in that moment i was the happiest girl ever.

At 7:30 the gates were opened and Ultra slowly filled up. Imago opened the show, and although i dont have a soft spot for OPM music, i actually enjoyed their music.

The concert was SPECTACULAR. Because Artu was one of the professional photographers at the concert, i hung out with one of my close friends, Joe Wu. It took some coaxing but in the end i convinced Joe to look like an idiot with me and sing out all the lyrics to Switchfoot’s songs. I was quite sad that they didnt play 24 like their online setlist said they would but still, it was absolutely amazing.

Remembering Sunday

For a couple of months now, my cousins have been rambling on and on about the All Time Low concert and how they were so stoked that they were playing here on Sept. 22. Honestly, I had no intention of watching at all… then, that persistent commercial on TV started running and I found myself singing along to all the songs and realized that I probably was a closet fan. When I tweeted about it one day I found a couple of people willing to watch with me! 

I know, for a design student my poster is PATHETIC. My marker decided to conk out on me. waste of money. That’s Carla and I sitting in line, we got bored so we made friends with the people in front of us and bought our supplies at the conveniently located National Bookstore across the street from Araneta. 

We sat in Upper B, we were particularly early. Thanks to all the 14-year-old fan girls, we had entertainment while we waited. Seriously, they played Red Hot Chili Peppers while the colosseum filled up, and the little girls did NOT sing along… but of course the minute they played Party Rock Anthem they knew all the words. tsk tsk tsk.  

All in all, i’m really glad I watched. I needed a good Pop Rock concert to round up my “Concerts Attended” list for 2011. Next up, Jason Mraz! 

I made the mistake of filling up my friday night with plans plans plans, so by the end of the night I was SOAKED and EXHAUSTED. I decided i’d take the same approach as Camie and write this in bullet form.

Girls i’ve missed!! Trish and Ienne

Last week, I went through a minor crisis with my laptop. I couldn’t figure out why it wouldn’t charge, so I made a trip to my cousin’s house to borrow a charger. When I got there, Raf offered me 2 tickets to the Tahiti80 concert. I had NO idea who they were, to be honest, but I said yes anyway because Dan really wanted to go. I have never gotten into a band this fast! I havent stopped listening to their music since the concert last friday! 

Radioactive Sago Project kick started the concert, followed by Up Dharma Down. They were pretty good and I loved the whole gig vibe of the concert! I think we should have more international bands come and play this way! It was intimate and super chill. I even got to meet them!! Tahiti80 was so excellent that I probably looked like a complete fan girl asking them to be in a picture with me. no shame. It didn’t help that I couldnt understand a word they said due to their extremely thick French accents. Also! got a free poster! what up! Thanks for the tickets Raf! and thanks for taking me with you Denny! :)

Random Martina Fact: I have the most varied taste in music. This is why it’s fun to set my iTunes to shuffle and be surprised with whatever starts to play. 

A couple of weeks leading up to the Avril Lavigne concert, I was debating whether or not I really wanted to watch since I saw her the first time she came to Manila with Simple Plan. When my sister said she wanted to watch too, I stopped doubting and bought tickets. It was a good choice too cause I even surprised myself with all the lyrics I knew and the songs I remembered from her older albums! Definitely a great night to kick start a spectacular weekend!

Ever since the first rumors of A Rocket To The Moon coming to Manila started to circulate, I knew I had to get my hands on tickets. When they finally announced the venues and dates, I put on my game face and searched high and low, eventually my cousin, Maia, magically got her hands on some! I wont lie, I was ecstatic. For the longest time, i’ve been saying that if they came to Manila i would be front and center to sing my lungs out, no matter what. I’m proud to say I was in front, and semi center (which turned out pretty great cause we stood right in front of Halvo heehee).

I decided to take this opportunity to get to know the other bands they were coming with too! so here are some of my shots from the concert! Thanks so much again, Mai! :)  

I was surprised to find out that all the members in the A+ dropouts are around 14 years old! Can you imagine touring the world at that age?! CRAZY.

 

I really liked the outfit of the lead singer of the Summer Set. 

I actually had no idea who the ready set was, but after hearing them for the first time, i’m glad I gave their music a shot! (I am attempting to refrain from commenting on the hipster outfit their guitarist had on)

A Rocket to the moon was EXCELLENT. I really dont know what else to say. After they went on, Forever the Sickest Kids was going to play so I gave up my front row spot because I really don’t think the night could’ve gotten any better. 

Surprisingly though, Forever the Sickest Kids were pretty good too! I knew 2 of the songs they played and the lead singer gave me a fred durst vibe, but the rest of their set was pretty good too.

I have videos of the songs they played at the Hanson Concert but Youtube and I are having a bit of a disagreement so I only have one up so far. Definitely a proud friend moment! Manila Music Festival 2012

Earlier this year, a couple of my friends went to a music festival called Malasimbo. I was super jealous because school kept me from going. When I heard about the Manila Music Festival I knew I couldn’t miss it! There was a water gun fight that day, so I opted not to bring my camera, so all these photos are from different people :)

NKOTBSB new kids on the block backstreet boys concert family sisters 366

153/366 My sister&#8217;s and I watched the NKOTBSB concert yesterday and I have to say, it was the BEST concert i&#8217;ve ever been to. I feel like they dont do shows like that anymore! with the dance steps and the boyband-ness of it all! I think sharing the experience with my sisters made it THAT much better, so thankful I have weirdos like them to sing and dance with me - because you KNOW I sang and danced my heart out that night!
